Henderson Heritage Day
September Autumn brings the anticipation of the upcoming Henderson Heritage Day at the Henderson Mennonite Heritage Park & Museum! Take a nostalgic journey at the annual Heritage Day event, featuring a variety of cultural experiences, demonstrations, and activities suitable for all ages. Immerse yourself in interactive activities such as old-fashioned laundry day, corn shelling, hands-on rope making, and butter making. Explore traditional handwork demonstrations, including quilting, crocheting, embroidery, and rug weaving. Heritage Day has no admission charge, allowing you to explore the entire park freely. Enjoy live traditional gospel music, witness old-fashioned music performances in the farmhouse and Immigrant House. Indulge in a diverse range of ethnic foods, including zwieback, New Year’s cookies, raisin shnetya, sour cream cookies, apple prieshka, bologna, cheese, ham sandwiches, traditional waffles with white cream sauce, and freshly pressed apple cider. Treat yourself to a root beer float at the East Side Cafe while admiring antique tractors. Visit the Visitors’ Center for frozen cinnamon and caramel rolls, frozen verenike meals with ham gravy to take home, and watch sausage stuffing demonstrations offering cracklings, lard, and spare ribs for purchase. If genealogy interests you, the General Store is open for viewing Heritage Park’s genealogies and gift shop items. Volunteers are available to assist with the GRANDMA Genealogy computer program. For those needing assistance getting around Heritage Park, golf carts will be available. Located 1 ½ miles south of the Henderson I-80 Exit #342 on spur 93A, Heritage Day promises something for everyone. For more information, contact Suzanne at 402-723-4252.
