August in York County is shaping up to be a month full of music, markets, creativity, and family-friendly adventures. Whether you’re looking for a low-key afternoon strolling through the farmers market, an evening enjoying live entertainment, or hands-on activities for the kids, there’s no shortage of things to do. This month’s calendar blends community traditions with fresh events, giving you plenty of opportunities to connect, create, and celebrate.

Aug 14: York Farmers Market
Kilgore Memorial Library | 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm
Stock up on locally grown produce, fresh baked goods, and handmade crafts while enjoying a friendly community atmosphere. This is the perfect place to meet local growers, try something new, and support area artisans.

Aug 14: Back to School Celebration
East Hill Park | 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm
School is almost back in session, but before homework and early mornings take over, join the fun at East Hill Park. Enjoy an evening with food trucks offering delicious eats, music to set the mood, and games the whole family can play together.

Aug 16: Lego Club
Kilgore Memorial Library | 10:00 am – 11:00 am
A creative gathering for builders of all ages. Work on your own project or collaborate on a community masterpiece—no instruction book required, just imagination.

Aug 17: Family Fun: Geocache
SCC York Learning Center | 2:00 pm – 5:00 pm
Turn your phone into a treasure-hunting tool during this guided introduction to geocaching. Learn the basics of finding and logging caches, then head out to explore local hiding spots. Bring a fully charged phone, transportation, and a sense of adventure—you never know what you’ll discover.

Aug 17: CASA for York Duck Race
York Family Aquatic Center | 4:00 pm – 5:00 pm
Cheer on hundreds of bright yellow ducks as they race toward the finish line in this lighthearted fundraiser. Proceeds support CASA’s mission of advocating for children in need.

Aug 18–20: Auditions for “The Crazy Quilt Club”
Yorkshire Playhouse | Times vary
Aspiring actors ages 15 and up are invited to audition for this lively stage production. Roles available for 1 man and 7 women. Come ready to read, improvise, and bring your personality to the stage.

Aug 19: Pages to Products
Kilgore Memorial Library | 4:00 pm – 5:00 pm
Part book club, part maker’s space—this session invites you to draw inspiration from the library’s collection of activity and DIY books, then roll up your sleeves and create something new.

Aug 19: Ukulele Club
Kilgore Memorial Library | 5:00 pm – 6:30 pm
Learn new chords, practice strumming patterns, and maybe even join in a singalong. All skill levels welcome.

Aug 19: Elks Husker Huddle with Steve Sipple
York Elks Lodge | 5:30 pm Hot Dog Bar, 6:30 pm Program
Get the inside scoop on the upcoming Huskers season from sportswriter Steve Sipple. Enjoy bucket beer specials, a free raffle for game tickets, and a hot dog bar before the talk.

Aug 20: Senior Center Lunch and Learn

Join other community members for a hot lunch followed by a presentation from Kim Mortenson of Cornerstone Bank on recognizing and preventing fraud and scams.

Aug 21: Puzzler Thursdays – Adult Puzzle Club

Aug 23: York Area Children’s Museum 25th Anniversary Celebration
City Auditorium & YACM | Time TBD
The York Area Children’s Museum is turning 25, and they’re celebrating with a day packed with fun. Watch Magician Jeff Quinn wow the crowd, enjoy free soft-serve ice cream, and visit craft stations to make balloon animals and paper airplanes. The York FFA Petting Zoo will be on-site for hands-on animal encounters. It’s the perfect blend of play, learning, and community spirit.

Aug 23: Beginning Portrait Drawing

Award-winning artist Lisa Strilkivsky will guide you through the fundamentals of pencil portraiture, covering techniques and tools to help you improve your skills.

Aug 23: Healthy Dog Snacks

Learn to make allergy-friendly treats for your pup. Bring a container to take your creations home.
